Do you think Baldur's Gate 3 is finished? Well, Larian isn't over yet, as photo mode, cross-platform play, and 12 subcategories are coming in 2025

While most people aren't ready to move on yet, Baldur's Gate 3 is becoming increasingly popular Even Next year's content will make most die-hard fans play it for the eleventh time. In the meantime, I haven't finished my first one yet.

Via the game's social media channels and a Steam blog post, we announced that Baldur's Gate 3 has not received its last major content update. We know that the Larians have said in the past that they are finished complete There are big role-playing games out there, but they keep coming back to them. It's entirely possible that they could be stuck in this cycle for years, just like the developers of Terraria and The Binding of Isaac.

The acclaimed game, played even by just three people in the Vatican, is currently enjoying a slew of user-made mods, but that's not stopping Larian from giving fans even more extras.

Next year, Patch 8 (which the team promises will be the last of Realsies) will introduce cross-platform play, photo mode, and 12 new subclasses. While a photo mode has long been clamored for, cross-play is a bit of a surprise and would make BG3 a perfectly social game that can be played for countless hours. As for the new subclasses, I guess that means most players will be rerolling their characters again. The Dungeons & Dragons patients are winning.

Cross-platform play will be properly introduced, with “full cross-platform progress, including cross-platform play.” Lobbies will be created and shared regardless of platform, although it's not entirely clear if we'll be able to list them publicly for playing Randos.

As for Photo Mode, it will include a ton of features, including camera and lens settings, scene modifiers (poses, facial expressions, etc.), post-processing effects, frames, and even stickers. Since we have no doubt that the most dedicated players will use these options in conjunction with the mod, let the hungry mayhem begin.

Finally, patch 8 will add a new subcategory to all 12 categories. We've listed them below, but we recommend reading the official post for a complete rundown.

  • Bard – Charm Academy
  • Barbarian – Giant's Causeway
  • Priest – Realm of Death
  • Druid – Star Circle
  • Paladin – Oath of the Crown
  • Warrior – Arcane Archer
  • Monk-Drunken Master
  • Ranger – Guardian of the Swarm
  • Thief – Bluff
  • Magician – Shadow Magic
  • Warlock – Hexagonal Blade
  • Wizard – Blade Song

It's also important to note that “stress testing” will take place in January, not only to figure out cross-platform play, but also to figure out a batch of additional fixes that will be delivered in Patch 8. This means we probably shouldn't expect the final version to be released before February 2025. We will share updates on this patch in due course.
