PlayStation appears to be testing user-written reviews on the PS Store, which means you’ll be able to rate your games with more than just stars.

Xbox has allowed users to leave written reviews for a while now, but on PlayStation, the only thing you can currently do is rate games from one to five stars. Well, it looks like the console maker is testing written user reviews, as one user shared on the PlayStation subreddit earlier this week. The user asked the community “When did PlayStation start allowing written reviews? It seems that only PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 are allowed.” [a] Right now, they only have a handful of games on their store page.” They also shared a screenshot of the page that allows you to post reviews, with the game being reviewed being Helldivers 2.

It’s a very simple page that just prompts you to enter your star rating and thoughts on the game, asks you to mark spoilers and agree to terms and conditions. Nothing fancy, but this will obviously drastically change the way players can voice their opinions on PlayStation games, which currently involve posting long reviews on social media about completely different topics, hoping someone will respond but knowing that they never will.

When will PlayStation start allowing written reviews? Currently it seems that they only allow reviews for a handful of games on their store pages.

Many other users in the Reddit thread commented that they’ve had the opportunity to review different games, but several people specifically noted that they had trouble trying to review Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. This appears to be because people have the disc version instead of the digital version, but I was unable to verify this myself.

User reviews are generally popular on platforms like Steam, though they have been used for review bombing in the past, so it will be interesting to see if this encourages that behavior (hopefully not).
