The Monster Hunter Wilds beta has been doing a pretty good job of engaging players so far, but it seems many of them may now be in danger of wetting the bed — either from fear or amusement — after experiencing some graphical glitches nightmare fuel. Make this game not look like something you plan to play in 2025.
After loading, a group of people on the Monster Hunter subreddit have been sharing clips of the issues, which see NPCs revert to almost 2D eyeless textured forms – which, as you can imagine, makes for interesting dialogue – while monsters are just hugely angry The spots, you’re hunting, are like you’re cleaning up a kid who’s gone crazy with Play-Doh (or Play-Doh, I guess, if you’re from across the pond).

If you want to understand what these guys are going through, you can check out some of the posts embedded in this article, as they’ve entered a realm that combines edgy, realistic visuals with abstract existential horror. To be fair, if you’ve signed up to hunt some monsters, you need to be prepared for anything.
Regardless, the good news is that Capcom has started working on the case, showing that it’s making sure that the final version of the game should be less prone to such issues, and giving people troubleshooting steps to follow to help them reduce the number of weird situations in the beta experience.
“The issue with after-image noise that occurred in some environments when frame generation was enabled will be addressed in the full game, which is already in a better state compared to the beta,” the developer wrote in a tweet published on Steam. Steps to try are noted in the troubleshooting guide.
