If you want to know if you need to play Final Fantasy VII Remake forward rebirth Come out, the original answer is that you don’t!
Over the past few days, Final Fantasy VII’s official Twitter account has posted some vague questions and answers from developers working on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It starts with the account telling us the fact that no release date has been set yet, but development is going well. We were even told yesterday that Respawn will have a “Narrative Development Chain“Exciting stuff, I know. Today’s post is a little more interesting though, because it turns out you don’t even need to play Final Fantasy VII Remake to enjoy Respawn.

“Do I need to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake to enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?” the post asked Rebirth co-direc tor Motomu Toriyama, who replied, “No – we’ve prepared so that there is no chance of playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.” Players of one game can fully enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.” Who knows how this will actually play out, as the Remake did make some pretty big story changes to the original PS1 game, and it feels like they’ll be big in the future. Influence, but hey, I’m not a developer, so how do I know?
Designing a game this way isn’t a particularly surprising choice, as games are getting more expensive to produce and take longer to release, so of course Square Enix would want as many people as possible to play them. You can really feel this from Nintendo’s latest The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, because you really don’t need to play Breath of the Wild to enjoy its sequel.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was announced last year during the Final Fantasy 7 25th Anniversary livestream, and promised to release this coming winter, anytime between the upcoming December and February 2024 (roughly speaking). Some fans believe these Q&As will lead to a new trailer for Summer Game Fest. We’ve had one each of the past four days, so it’s fair to assume we’ll get it on day seven, or June 8, the day Summer Games Fest will be live. Square Enix has already confirmed its participation in the event, so we’ll just have to wait a few days to find out.
