There have been rumors about a new DOOM for some time now. Now the signs of an announcement are becoming more and more apparent and there are already a number of details.
There have been rumors about a new DOOM for a while, but now things are apparently taking shape. According to the usually well-informed industry insider Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming, a new offshoot of the series will actually be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9th.
The game is said to be called DOOM: The Dark Ages and has been in development for four years under the working title DOOM Year Zero. This working title already appeared in the documents as part of the legal proceedings between Microsoft and the American FTC surrounding the takeover of Activision Blizzard. Based on the title, it could be a prequel inspired by the Middle Ages that sheds light on the origins of the Doomslayer.
Leaker NateTheHate, meanwhile, confirms Henderson’s statements and even has some additions. According to him, Microsoft is also leaving the exclusive path with DOOM and wants to release DOOM: The Dark Ages as a multiplatform title for PC, Xbox Series X/S and also Playstation 5. This is actually not unlikely, because in addition to the current release of once exclusive titles on PS5 such as Sea of Thieves or Grounded, Microsoft has already confirmed that it will bring its own brands to more platforms than just PC and Xbox.
We will find out what is really going on at the Xbox Games Showcase, which will take place on June 9th from 7 p.m. DOOM: The Dark Ages will be in illustrious company there. Among other things, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will even be presented for the first time with its own Direct. We can also expect new material on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Avowed, both of which are due to be released this year. There are further rumors about a possible Gears 6, and it is also likely that the Starfield expansion Shattered Space will also be presented.
