In a new update on the official website, the makers of DOOM Eternal have spoken out. They briefly look back on the slightly more than one-year history of the game – and confirm below that an already announced game mode should not appear after all.
DOOM Eternal is now a little over a year since the original release – reason enough for the developers to speak in more detail in a blog post. While looking back at the latest events and the history of the shooter at the beginning, one also dedicates oneself to the future of the game – and that should be a disappointment for some players.
Id Software has now officially confirmed that the invasion mode that was actually planned and already announced should not be published after all. It says: “Many of you know that we wanted to release a free invasion mode, but the pandemic and working from home greatly affected and delayed development of it. We also saw your combat and gameplay of expansions and Master Level celebrates really hard – that’s why we’ve shifted our focus away from Invasion mode to something completely new: a horde mode for the single player. “
In short: The invasion mode is officially history, but instead you get a horde mode from the makers. Of this, in turn, you show yourself clearly convinced: “We think that this mode will give you more of the variety and challenge that you love about the game.”
In addition, the battle mode is to be revised and improved. Among other things, this should become more competitive and offer ranking-based characters. A number of gameplay and balancing updates as well as a new map should round off the upcoming changes and innovations. Specific details can be expected from QuakeCon in August.
The next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S was recently released for DOOM Eternal.
