In March, DOOM Eternal, the next major part of the popular shooter series, will be released. But does this remain completely true to its roots or are there possibly newer business practices such as microtransactions? The creative director has now commented on this.

Even with one or the other full-price title, there is great fear among players that developers and publishers may want to make even more money through microtransactions, loot boxes, etc. But what about the new shooter DOOM Eternal? The topic has now been taken up via Facebook and has prompted creative director Hugo Martin to make a clear statement.
Hugo Martin confirms in his comment that there will be cosmetic items in DOOM Eternal, but fears regarding microtransactions are explicitly not justified. Because all objects that affect your look during the game will also only be acquired through experience points – and you can only earn them by playing the shooter.
The cosmetic items, which according to Martin "just look cool" and otherwise have no playful effect, cannot be bought for real money, also because there will be no corresponding store in DOOM Eternal. Rather, the makers decided to consider unlocking new skins, for example, as part of the gaming experience and to integrate the feature accordingly.
If you do not attach great importance to such items, you can also completely ignore them and focus fully on the classic shooter gameplay of the title. In summary: "DOOM Eternal is a $ 60 game and not a free-to-play or mobile title – we give you the full gaming experience without any store, as you'd expect."
DOOM Eternal will be available on March 20, 2020 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Stadia; a switch version is to follow at a later date.
