Dr. Disrespect: Guilty plea deleted, streaming return announced

The controversy surrounding Dr. Disrespect is taking another turn: The influencer has now announced his streaming return. He had previously deleted his post with the quasi-admission of guilt about his previous misconduct.

Dr. Disrespect was banned from the streaming platform Twitch in 2020, even though he was a big name there. A few weeks ago, the truth came to light in this context: He is said to have sent inappropriate and sexually suggestive messages to a minor and even attempted a meeting that never happened. Almost all sponsors and also the developer studio Midnight Society, co-founded by Dr. Disrespect, subsequently distanced themselves from Dr. Disrespect, who later admitted the facts in a social media post, but showed only limited remorse. He then took a break from streaming.

Now the next chapter in the saga is being written, because Dr. Disrespect has deleted the post with the quasi-admission of guilt for the events from 2017 without replacement for unknown reasons. The background to this is probably the fact that Dr. Disrespect also announced his return to the streaming business at the same time.

It will be interesting to see how this streaming comeback is received. Not only did the sponsors distance themselves from Dr. Disrespect’s misconduct, other influencers and streamers also harshly criticized their previously successful colleague. The fact that he has now deleted the message he wrote personally, in which he took responsibility for the misconduct at the time, is likely to cause further discussion.

Dr. Disrespect has not yet revealed when the break he imposed on himself because of the controversy will end – but given the social media teasers, it should not be long. The public reaction has been mixed since then. Some fans are happy about the influencer’s comeback, while others have stressed in posts that he should stay where he is. At the very least, if he does make a comeback, he should comment more specifically on the messages he sent to the minor and their content; after all, there are still many uncertainties in this regard. However, it is doubtful whether such a statement can be expected.
