Almost exactly four years ago, streamer Dr. Disrespect was unexpectedly kicked off the Twitch platform. No reasons were given, and a short time later the doctor made his debut on the rival platform YouTube. Now there are fierce accusations as to why he had to step down.
Dr. Disrespect became big primarily through shooter streams, in which he stands out from the crowd for two things: skill and antisocial behavior. This combination quickly made him one of the biggest streamers on Twitch, and in March 2020 he signed a multi-million dollar deal with the platform operators. This made his ban in June 2020 all the more strange. The doctor is now active on YouTube, with great success as well.
Why exactly he was banned from Twitch remains unknown. Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV, his real name, merely suggested that the contract had become too expensive for Twitch. But now new details have emerged and they are making serious accusations against Dr. Disrespect.
The following is a trigger warning regarding grooming and inappropriate behavior towards minors!
The allegations come from Cody Conners, who worked as an account director for strategic partnerships for Twitch in 2020. According to him, Dr. Disrespect was banned at the time for sexting messages to a minor that he sent via Twitch’s internal system. He also tried to meet her at TwitchCon, even though he knew her age.
Herschel Beahm IV himself, of course, denies these accusations. He states in a post: “I understand it’s a hot topic, but everything has been settled, no wrongdoing has been confirmed and they [Twitch] have paid out the entire contract.” So it’s one person’s word against another’s.
Conners did not provide any further evidence, even after repeated requests. But several other former Twitch employees have since agreed with him in posts on X (formerly Twitter). The timing of the publication is also interesting, exactly four years after the ban. Perhaps an NDA expired?
