Sony brought some in-house exclusives, but its partners also made a splash. Almost a month before its release, Dragon Age 4 The Veilguard was thrust into the spotlight.
Ten years is a long time, especially in the world of video games, and when a publisher loses its reputation game after game, Dragon Age 4 The Veilguard has become the game of all hopes, despite its complicated relaunch. BioWare finally sees the end of the tunnel and the fruits of its efforts should pay off. The first feedback is certainly laudatory, and this fourth installment could well mark the strong return of the license, which should win over both veterans but also a whole new audience. It was more in the first category when EA played around with it in the last State of Play.
The gameplay for Dragon Age 4 The Veilguard
The final State of Play will have some surprises in store. Those that were unfortunately revealed in advance, including the remasters of Horizon Zero Dawn or Legacy of Kain, like those that we did not see coming, like Ghost of Tsushima 2. In the middle of everything, well-known titles arrived to take advantage of the aura of the event to make presentations for PlayStation players. This was the case, for example, of Dragon Age 4 The Veilguard, which tried to allay the fears of veterans worried about the watered-down side of the various images shown up to that point. This time, BioWare has highlighted the darker fantasy side of the game, which clearly tends towards Origins.
Then we find Rook, the game’s protagonist, a high-level mage with the Enchanted Blade specialization, facing a formidable dragon released by the evil gods that threaten Thedas. She can count on the support of two of her traveling companions, Taash and Lucanis, who will work with her when necessary by combining two of their skills. BioWare had promised that Dragon Age 4 would be a truly epic blast, and on this point it would be hard to fault given everything we’ve seen so far. Dragon Age 4’s gameplay clearly takes the spotlight, with a class that doesn’t skimp on visual effects, burning, freezing, electrocuting and annihilating enemies using the game’s new skill wheel.
For those who are more curious, the Canadian studio has given a concrete overview of the build used by the mage in this video. The opportunity to delve into the depths of the skill tree and better understand how it works. As a reminder, Dragon Age 4 will be available on October 31, 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series and PC. The game will also take advantage of the power of the PS5 Pro when the console launches.
