It’s been eight years since the last Dragon Age, and that raises the question of how to appeal to both old fans and new players. Bioware has now commented on this.
Bioware has a fairly lengthy blog post about Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, focusing on how to appeal to both veterans and newcomers. Mainly based on the fact that Dreadwolf should also rely on a narrative style that relies heavily on the characters and companions.
Bioware has obviously made some plans, especially with regard to the fact that you will return to a well-known game world. “Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is a balance between answering long-standing questions for seasoned fans and making a game that new players or someone who played DA:I years ago can jump into,” it says, among other things.
“Unlike the vast galaxies we explore in our other franchises, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf returns to Thedas where we see friends and places familiar to us. Some fans haven’t had time since Inquisition’s release in 2014 spent more with Dragon Age while others have read every comic and story that has been published since Others have never played a Dragon Age game and have no idea who the bald guy is (he’s Solas) It’s a diverse one audience, and in developing Dreadwolf we talked about how the team could simultaneously reward our loyal fans and welcome new fans.”
So it seems like Bioware wants to make the game palatable to everyone. What that will look like in the end remains to be seen. You can read more about the narrative aspects of the game in the current dev blog read.
