In Episode 12 of Dragon Ball Daima, Vegeta reveals that he can finally transform into Super Saiyan 3, a first in 30 years. Although fans liked this new form, some noticed a major inconsistency compared to Dragon Ball Super… which some are trying to justify as best they can.

As the anime reaches the halfway point of its supposed running time, Dragon Ball Daima picks up the pace as their battles come together. After Goku Tamagami defeated Number Three, it was Vegeta who took care of Number Two in the Second Demon Realm. The Prince of Saiyans struggles to face the Guardian of the Dragon Ball and eventually transforms into Super Saiyan 3 to defeat his opponent. This is a first in Dragon Ball history, as until then only Goku and Gotenks had managed to achieve it. While fans were pleased to discover the look of this SSJ3, some still noted that it posed a major contradiction to Dragon Ball Super.

A new inconsistency between Dragon Ball Daima and Super?

To put things into context, let's first point out that Dragon Ball Daima takes place between the end of the Boo arc of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. So, All events in Daima are said to have already taken place in Super. With that in mind, the inconsistency highlighted by fans at the beginning of DBS can be found in the “Battle of Gods” story arc. As a reminder, while Goku and his friends are celebrating Bulma's birthday, Beerus, the God of Destruction, comes to Earth to find an opponent who is his equal, the legendary Super Saiyan.

As he threatens to destroy the Earth, Bulma ends up punching Beerus, who knocks her on the back. If he had been paralyzed by the God of Destruction by then, Vegeta flies into an uncontrollable rage when he sees his wife being beaten. At this point, he transforms into Super Saiyan… 2. However, if Daima plays long before Super, fans are wondering why Vegeta wouldn't have transformed into Super Saiyan 3 under the influence of rageknowing full well that the SSJ 3 is obviously stronger than the SSJ 2 despite certain disadvantages.

Dragon Ball is full of inconsistencies…so what?

Given this remark Some fans try to explain that Vegeta intentionally used SSJ3, a form that requires much more energy than SSJ 2, a more controlled and balanced transformation. Others argue that Vegeta would have understood that Goku couldn't do anything against Beerus on the planet of Kaio Shin in Super Saiyan 3, so he wouldn't have repeated that mistake on his part. Despite all these more or less well-founded explanations, there is a good chance that there is no specific meaning to be sought here. Daima can be seen as a way to finally canonize Vegeta's SSJ3, something fans have been demanding for decades. Still, one thing is certain: Daima and Super are hot for each other, as evidenced by many elements of previous episodes.
