Gaming News Dragon Ball Sparking Zero: We like this, but it also worries us
The Game Awards 2023 ceremony gave us a wave of trailers, each as attractive as the next. Among them, the one from Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero particularly caught our attention.
It is the fourth part of the Budokai Tenkaichi fighting game series, which is expected by both the community and the editorial team Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero! are big. Will the game offer content that rivals its predecessors, or will it disappoint us like some Dragon Ball games? We answer these questions in our JV debate.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero!, what is it?
This is certainly one of the most anticipated games by the anime fan community since its announcement at the Game Awards 2023. The colorful trailer surprised everyone and already promises a lot. It takes the form of a 3D fighting game in the Dragon Ball universe and features a wide range of playable characters based on the various series from Akira Toriyama’s works, from Dragon Ball Z to Dragon Ball Super. Although there is no release date yet, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero! has been in development for over 5 years and looks very promising.
What do we think?
After the mixed reception of the last one NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM CONNECTIONS, the next DragonBall title is being discussed. Relaunching a well-known franchise isn’t always a good idea if it’s not executed well. In our JV debate we find the two visions that divide the community. On the one hand, Nagla does not understand the fans’ concern, because all the players liked the first pictures shown and there is no reason to worry at the moment. On the other hand, Kaname has major doubts about the project’s success due to recent video game releases based on manga.
It’s true that recent anime-based games haven’t necessarily been of good quality, as Kaname explains in our JV debate. We can look at the last one My Hero Academia: Your Own Justice or NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM CONNECTIONS to understand that a part of the community has given up on this matter. According to some, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero! will not be an exception to the rule. “But as we said in our JV debate, Dragon Ball is certainly the only manga where multiple video games appealed to the most people. With Dragon Ball Fighter Z we even had a claim to one of the best fighting games of recent years. There are many other points to consider with this game, which does not yet have a release date.
