Final Fantasy 16 Producer Naoki Yoshida recently notified fans on Twitter that the game will be postponed for half a year due to COVID-related difficulties. He has previously stated that we will get more reliable information in the second half of 2021, but given that we are already preparing to ring the bell in 2022, the ship seems to have set sail, and for good reason.
In a statement posted to his official Twitter account, Yoshida broke the bad news and explained why: “I promise that I will get more information about Final Fantasy XVI sometime later in 2021. However, I I regret to inform you that I will not be able to keep the complications due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This promise has delayed the development of the game by nearly half a year.”
Yoshida further explained that due to COVID, the team has been working from home, which to some extent hindered the development of the title. The bad news brings a new promise to show off the game when it’s ready: “That is to say, we will be solving this problem for most of 2021 and hope to reduce its impact in the new year. At the lowest level, we can better focus on the task at hand: improving the quality of graphics resources, improving combat mechanisms, enriching individual combat, finishing cutscenes, and optimizing the overall graphics. Our main goal now is to try our best Experience the game by yourself so that it can be perfectly polished.” He set a loose spring date of 2022 to show more.
Yoshida said earlier this year that the main plan has been completed, so further delays may not be necessary. Yoshida is also the producer of the popular “Final Fantasy 14” and its latest expansion pack Endwalker. In fact, it was so popular that Square Enix had to suspend the purchase and free trial of the game to solve the congestion problem. It is safe to say that Yoshida has a lot to do recently, although there seems to be enough time to remove some wrinkles.
