The developer studio Funcom announced a release date for Dune Awakening during Gamescom 2024, but the game is initially scheduled to be released for PC only in early 2025.
In an interview with VG247 Chief Product Manager Scott Junior explained why the console version would be released later. He is said to have revealed that optimizing the graphically intensive multiplayer title for different hardware specifications was a particular challenge.
The adaptation for the Xbox Series S in particular is complex, which is why the game will initially only be released for PC. Junior emphasized that a lot of work is going into optimization to make Dune Awakening playable in an appealing quality on both current high-end PCs and older systems.
Technologies like FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) are designed to help maximize graphics quality by rendering games at a lower resolution and then upscaling them for better performance.

In the interview, Scott Junior did not provide any further information about the PS5 or Xbox Series X. However, Funcom is not the only studio that has potential problems with the Xbox console.
Larian Studios also had challenges during the development of Baldur’s Gate 3. Accordingly, in this case too, a version for the Microsoft consoles was only released later.
Larger beta tests
In addition, Funcom plans to significantly expand the beta tests in the coming months. These tests are primarily intended to maximize the game’s server capacities.
Although no concrete details about a possible open beta have been announced, invitations for testing are expected to increase significantly until the planned release in early 2025.
