As in the “Dune” films, computers, robots and artificial intelligence are not permitted in the prequel “Dune – Prophecy”. We'll tell you why there's a technology ban.
Sky and Wow have been presenting the prehistory of the “Dune” universe weekly since November 18, 2024 with the new HBO series “Dune – Prophecy”. The popular sci-fi saga and its prequel series are based on the book series by the American author Frank Herbert.
In the “Dune” universe, a war between humans and computers ends with great losses. A new world is emerging from the ashes of the remaining society. In our article we will tell you why there is no room for any technological progress in this new order.
Dune – Prophecy: No technological progress
10,000 years before the events of the two films in the franchise, a catastrophic war ends with casualties. This resulted in a civilization that has renounced computers, robots and artificial intelligence. The reason for this is precisely this war between people and the “thinking machines”. The humans were able to win, but after the war there is a ban on these machines. Instead, from now on, humanity will rely on its own mental and physical discipline.
“Dune – Prophecy” begins after the end of this war. By abolishing technological means, the secret organization Bene Gesserit rises and wants to control the future of humanity. To do this, they sneak into the inner circle of world rulers in order to manipulate them.
Dune – Prophecy: Production
The series is produced by Wandering Jew Productions, Herbert Properties, Inc., Flying Life and Legendary Television on behalf of the US broadcaster HBO. Alison Schapker is the producer of Dune – Prophecy. Kevin J. Anderson, Bryan H. Carroll and Angela LaManna also appear in the production.
In addition to “Dune – Prophecy”, HBO also produces other content such as “The Penguin”. With a VPN service you can also receive HBO's US streaming service in Germany. If that's too much effort for you, you can of course also browse through the new series and films from Sky and Wow. Maybe you can discover a Sky original for yourself.
