Who is Putnam?
Putnam is not a blank slate in the Dwarf Fortress community: he has been known for his mods to the strategy hit for years. For example, he developed a tool to implement real-world objects into the game. He also programmed mods that make the game worlds of Dwarf Fortress look like something out of Dragon Ball Z or Homestruck.
This is very reminiscent of the recently announced future plans for Dwarf Fortress, which include talk of a tool with which you can design elements yourself. You can find all the information about the future plans for Dwarf Fortress in our game roadmap article.
We had a lot of fun in the kingdom of the dwarves. In this video you can see our Dwarf Fortress GameStar base in top form:

Dwarf Fortress: The GameStar fortress blossoms and prospers (gameplay impressions for the test)
For over 20 years, Dwarf Fortress has been in the firm hands of the Adams Family (not to be confused with the Addams Family, of course). The team consists of developer Tarn Adams and designer Zach Adams. So far, no one but the two brothers Tarn and Zack have been allowed to look at the program code. Putnam’s appointment is changing that.
Criticism in the future plans: Even if the game was overwhelmingly well received: As long as there was only one developer, development progressed slowly, the big plans for the future seemed quite ambitious. There is still a lot to do in the current version. Our community thinks so too:

Those: StainX
They need to get the FPS under control.
Those: pumperglohrt
By doubling the number of developers, it now seems realistically possible to both fix existing problems and work on future plans. We’ll have to wait and see how the new job will actually affect him.
Dwarf Fortress has changed a lot since its earliest days. In these pictures you can see how it looked almost a decade ago:
