Amazon’s “Four Quadrant” Christmas action comedy Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, opens in the U.S. tomorrow, which means The Rock is promoting it heavily and dropping a few Baffling shots.

Johnson, of course, is not only a very active actor and producer, but has also been one of Hollywood’s best public relations experts, but after a series of high-profile flops, he’s doubling down on Amazon’s seemingly ordinary A blockbuster, the film cost over $250 million and was directed by Jumanji (newcomer) helmer Jack Kasdan, which certainly explains why it looks so soulless and clean.

Via Twitter, we came across this clip from the film’s IMAX promo (see below), in which Johnson tells potential viewers with a straight face that he’s watching Christopher Nolan’s latest hit, Oppenheim Oppenheimer had an epiphany. Filmmakers’ favorite IMAX theater. His immediate thoughts (which may or may not have happened)? “The Red One on this screen, with this technology, the game is over.” Maybe he meant that if the show business collapsed, his acting career would be over.

Currently, “Red One” has a domestic debut target of $35 million (taking into account box office) and has a 37% share on Rotten Tomatoes.

Okay, I’m just kidding here…sort of. With Moana 2 (a live-action remake of the first film) and a host of other projects on the way, Johnson seems primed for the rest of the decade. That said, there’s been a noticeable decline in interest in both the big projects he chooses to spearhead and his public persona, so if he keeps handing out villains as a producer, maybe his “big star cred” will run out sooner or later. .

Even more worrying is the situation for Chris Evans, whose only notable acting credit in the post-Avengers: Endgame era is 2019’s Knives Out. Sure, he made money here and there, but neither he or his agents found many interesting roles; the exact opposite of what Robert Downey Jr. did when he won an Oscar earlier this year. The former Captain America has teased in the past that he’s interested in transitioning into a director, but those plans have yet to come to fruition. Long story short: Evans is the least interesting Chris out there, and even Pratt is making funnier moves than him at the moment, somehow.

Regardless, Dwayne Johnson is still a fascinating pop culture icon with a legion of fans, that’s for sure, but one of (arguably) the coolest guys out there is slowly turning into just another snake oil salesman who puts Too much money turns into a pile of money. Overdeveloped shit. I mean, he returned to the Fast and Furious franchise last year after a feud with Vin Diesel, so things are definitely not going to go that smoothly. Hopefully he can somehow get back to his give and take days.
