Dying Light 2 is one of those phantoms where nobody really knows whether and what the result is. A new report throws a gloomy light on the Techland developer studio.
There are games that you know are in development, but something really tangible doesn’t seem to get around. See Dead Island 2 with its countless postponements and developer changes, or recently Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, which has just been postponed indefinitely, along with the exemption of the previous developer studio. Techland’s Dying Light 2 is such a candidate and a new one Report to TheGamer
TheGamer claims to have spoken to several former and current Techland employees who understandably want to remain anonymous. It speaks of chaotic, aimless development processes, as well as constant changes that make an orderly process almost impossible. Nothing was set in stone, there would be changes all the time. Even the story of the game has been rewritten several times and looks like a Frankenstein monster made up of fragments.
The allegedly autocratic leadership style of CEO Pawel Marchewka is also heavily questioned. For example, that Marchewka’s wife works as a personnel manager without actually having the qualifications. Or that employees who disagree with the executive suite are isolated and pushed out of the project pretty quickly. Or that new employees who lack the appropriate qualifications are always brought on board. The implementation of changes in the processes should fail again and again due to the “old guard”. In general, there is talk of a toxic working atmosphere, as well as very questionable statements and aggressive feedback from management.
Of the readable report also contains statements from Marchewka on individual points, which of course sound very different from the allegations of the (ex) employees. All in all, the report does not cast a good light on the development of Dying Light 2 and if you observe the long history of postponements and personnel changes, there seems to be something to the statements. The current status of the game is that “exciting news” was promised in January, but nothing has yet to be seen.
