Well, who would have thought… a full seven years after the rather mediocre Dynasty Warriors 9, the series is celebrating its comeback next year with the latest spin-off Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
The announcement of Dynasty Warriors: Origins at yesterday’s State of Play was apparently not on anyone’s radar. After all, the series has been dormant for several years. But now Omega Force and Koei Tecmo have pulled themselves together and are releasing a new spin-off next year. Omega Force was also responsible for the other parts of the series and apparently has a lot planned:
“Dynasty Warriors: Origins is being developed by the amazing team at Omega Force, a team that is starting afresh with this game (complete with a new logo). With Origins, we want to prove that we are not only returning to our hack-and-slash roots and delivering the kind of action our fans crave, but that we are redefining expectations,” says the Playstation Blog.
The developers plan to go back to the roots of “1 vs. 1,000” gameplay in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, but to exploit the capabilities of the PS5: “We’re making the most of the PS5 hardware and creating a brand new Warriors-like battlefield where you’ll be challenged by massive armies as far as the eye can see! With the overwhelming number and size of enemy armies charging at you, you’ll need to act quickly and decisively if you want to survive. In addition to your own striking power, you’ll need to coordinate with allied armies and enjoy the tactical aspects of the game to take out hordes of enemies in our most exciting battles yet.”
The first trailer shows what to expect, namely a lively hack-and-slash orgy in the era of the Three Kingdoms, where you, as a new and nameless hero, torment whole hordes of enemies. More specific information about the game will follow in the coming weeks and months.
