E3 2020: at risk from coronavirus? That is the current status

The GDC 2020 was postponed due to the corona virus. What about the next big gaming event, the E3? Is it now also canceled?

After numerous cancellations by the largest industry representatives who did not want to promote the spread of the corona virus, the organizers of the Game Developers Conference gave up and postponed the event to summer. With this, all eyes are on the next, if not even the most important gaming event of the year: the E3, which also takes place in summer.

Although some publishers have more or less withdrawn from the fair in recent years and E3 veteran Geoff Keighley will no longer be part of the event, the organizers are still sticking to the opening this year – despite the increasing number of corona Cases, including in the United States. The ESA, which is responsible for the event, is closely monitoring the situation, but has not announced any changes to the previous plans.

"With the current situation in view, we are moving at high speed towards the planning of the E3 2020." Since it is not possible to predict how the global situation with regard to lung disease will develop in the coming months, very short changes to the plans are still possible. In contrast to the GDC, a purely online broadcast of the E3 would be more conceivable, but with the increasing opening of the fair for consumers it would also be less likely. If everything goes as planned, the E3 will take place from June 9th to 11th.
