In view of the next-gen console generation, the E3 2020 could not be as interesting as it has been for a long time, but quite a few developers and publishers no longer necessarily follow. This now also affects a long-term format for the fair.
How big and successful the E3 will be in June this year remains to be seen. However, the signs are now growing in advance that the major industry event is becoming less and less important. Microsoft wants to deliver a big show again, but Sony will stay away from the fair in 2020. The fact that the event as a whole seems to be losing importance is now becoming clear elsewhere.
The well-known game journalist Geoff Keighley, who is primarily known for moderating and producing the big award show The Game Awards in December each year, will stay away from the E3 2020 for the first time in 25 years; the industry-renowned insider has now confirmed this.
Keighley will neither visit E3 2020 nor co-produce and broadcast the E3 Coliseum format. According to the official statement, this time he wants to support the game industry "in a different way and at other events in the future". Given the publicly announced plans for E3 2020, he doesn't feel comfortable enough to attend the show.
"It was certainly not an easy decision, but I think this is the right one for me. I wanted the fans to know this before tickets went on sale," he also said of the E3 Coliseum.
