battlefield Fans everywhere got some really good news, and it didn’t come from developer DICE. Today, a new studio reveals itself to the world, bringing together key talent from the franchise’s long history.
TTK game is a Stockholm-based company led by 22-year DICE and Battlefield veteran Lars Gustavsson, who is leaving the studio in September 2022 following a major restructuring and leadership change.
Studio CEO and Creative Director Lars Gustavsson joins other heavyweights in Battlefield’s storied history. Those who have worked at DICE and DICE LA and have followed the Battlefield franchise over the years should be familiar with their names.
Senior Design Director Daniel Berlin served as Lead World Designer and Design Director on titles such as Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, and Battlefield 5. Berlin worked at DICE for over a decade and also worked on the ill-fated Battlefield 2042.
TTK Games’ CTO and Technical Director is Vidar Nygren, who himself has an impressive history with the franchise, stretching from the original Bad Company all the way to Battlefield 5. As DICE’s technical director, Nygren is one of the creators of the Frostbite engine, which is used to create all Battlefield games since Bad Company.
Forstbite is known for revamping the Battlefield series, making destruction a key pillar of its gameplay. EA would go on to use the same engine in various other non-DICE games, with varying degrees of success.
Art director Peter Hoyles has deep ties to DICE and has helped define the look and aesthetic of several Battlefield games. Before leaving DICE LA, he was the studio’s art director. Before joining the TTK Games team, Hoyles worked at Skydance New Media.
TTK stands for Time to Kill, a term used to define the pace of combat in shooters. But it takes on a different, more interesting new meaning, one that ties into the ethos of the studio.
Gustafson explained: “For us, the term ‘TTK’ isn’t just about finding the perfect speed or immediacy of games and the craftsmanship behind them — it’s about how humans have spent thousands of years playing games.”
Today’s news doesn’t offer any details about the project itself or its publisher. However, the studio did say that it has “received significant funding” and retains creative freedom. TTK Games is hiring for various positions and you can learn more about the studio on their official website.
