With the recent release of Season 2, Battlefield 2042 continues to try to reconcile fans with the game after the failed one. According to their own statements, EA also wants to stick to the brand and believes in a positive development. At least that’s what EA boss Andrew Wilson says. You can find out exactly what he said and how Battlefield should continue here.
There is much to do
Wilson’s statement came in a Telephone conference with the investment banking company Goldman Sachs. The EA boss is initially reasonable: You didn’t deliver what was expected in the last two games. Now you have a lot to do to bring the brand back to its former glory. But Wilson also sees good opportunities for Battlefield. So he says:
But at its core, it is an exceptional brand. And what we’ve seen in the entertainment world is that good brands are resilient. And we’ve seen films that didn’t live up to the expectations of the franchise. Star Wars may be an example here. And then you see what happens when the right creative team is involved, how they can completely reinvent and grow the franchise.
Wilson goes on to say he has confidence in the exceptionally creative team behind Battlefield. He also sees the brand at an advantage over Call of Duty in one area:
[…] In a world of questions about the future of Call of Duty, which platforms it will and will not appear on, it’s a tremendous opportunity […] to release Battlefield on all platforms.
With this, Wilson alludes to the recently publicized dispute between Xbox and PlayStation bosses, which arose out of the latter’s concern that Call of Duty would be lost to the PlayStation:
