EA chief Andrew Wilson said that the next generation of The Sims game may include online social features originally seen in EA's doomed MMO The Sims.
In a recent earnings conference call (via SimsCommunity), Wilson was asked if Maxis developer Maxis had plans to relaunch the online version of The Sims.
If you are the demon of the Sims like me, you may remember that there was an online version of The Sims. The Sims Online ran from 2002 to 2008 until it was shut down.
Wilson gave an interesting answer to this, saying that the functionality of The Sims Online will be part of the Sims experience for "the next few years."
"The Sims will be 20 next week," Wilson said on the phone. "The Maxis team and the team that has been part of Maxis for many years will continue to provide incredible innovation and creative content to the growing global Sims community. When we considered The Sims, I again referred to the motivation for playing games-inspiration , Evasion, social interaction, creation, self-improvement, competition. Generally, what the Sims does is actually focused on achieving motivation and inspiration, evasion, creation, self-improvement, without having to concentrate as much on social interaction and competition.
"But there are actually things that have been true for many years. One of them is that the Sims community will continue to grow and continue to connect with a wide range of social platforms and share what they do in and around the game . We have already seen this list in The Sims Online, which is a more social experience for us. Moreover, we also see that the competitive nature of The Sims is constantly improving, and people are comparing each other . Not competition in the sense of primitive movement, but their way of creation, way of creation, the use of imagination and the ability to build in the Sims universe. "
So what exactly is the new generation of The Sims? Wilson believes that the answer is cross-platform, there are many communities to visit, and more in-game competition is introduced. "Many years ago, these elements did exist in The Sims Online."
"As Maxis continues to think about the new generation of Sims – the cloud across platforms and the world around you, you should imagine that although we will always be true to our inspiration, escape, creation, self-improvement, motivation – concepts of social interaction and competition, such as Things that actually appeared in The Sims Online many years ago will be part of the Sims experience in the coming years.
"We are very excited. This game does not compete with similar products in terms of providing and realizing these motivations for players, and we think we will have huge growth opportunities for many years to come."
Las, we are still waiting for minimal information about the future of the franchise. "The Sims 4" was launched in 2014, and so far has obtained 8 expansion packs, but it is still unclear when the "The Sims 5" will appear.
