This week, content is lacking Battlefield 2042 The community received some big news. DICE officially announced the game’s first season zero hour, but the response was not overwhelming.
The new season kicks off today with a new map, two vehicles, two weapons, a gadget, and a new expert. The season had been delayed before and arrived nearly seven months after its release.
Compared to past Battlefield games, the amount of content is much lower than players expected, including the troubled Battlefield 5. Still, DICE promised to release four seasons, but Zero Hour didn’t make the best first impression.
Unfortunately, that sounds like the level of support we can get from the team going forward. According to GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb, EA has only a skeleton team left to work on Battlefield 2042. Grubb called it “abandon ship time” on his blockbuster show.
“This game basically boils down to the backbone,” Grubb said (via VGC).
“It comes down to liking the barebones, and those guys are just promising extra seasons that the game needs to meet the demands of the high-end version it sells. The backbone team is trying to pump this stuff out as fast as possible, and possibly the cheapest.”
Unsurprisingly, the rest of the Battlefield team has already started pre-production on the next mainline game. The unannounced project will be developed under the leadership of Respawn’s Vince Zampella, who took over the reigns of the Battlefield franchise in December.
As Grubb revealed this insight, EA contacted reporters to deny the report. “This is untrue,” EA said in a statement go to grab.
“There is an important team in the studio focused on developing and improving the Battlefield 2042 experience for our players, and at the core is our team at DICE. We are committed to the future of Battlefield 2042 and our areas of focus on the game , based on what we’ve heard from players, we’ve laid out the layout in our most recent development update.”
The lack of new content aside, DICE has been lethargic about making major changes to the core game. The developer communicated its intent to revamp all of the game’s existing maps to add more cover, move targets closer together, and make them more fun to play. But the first of these updates will arrive sometime in Season 1, so you can try to imagine how long it will take for the rest of the roster to update.
The same goes for experts, and DICE is also working to revamp it. Details of the work, not to mention a timeline, have yet to be revealed. At this rate, Battlefield 2042 will reach its full potential more deeply in 2023 or even 2024.
