This car project The series no longer exists because Electronic Arts will no longer support the development of the franchise.
According to GI.biz, EA, developed by Slightly Mad Studios since 2015, announced today that it will “stop further development and investment in the series.”
The announcement was made internally, and it is said that employees working on Project CARS will take on different roles at EA as much as possible.
Slightly Mad Studios, which was acquired by Codemasters in 2019 (which itself was acquired by EA in 2021), has released three mainline games in the series, the last of which is Project CARS Go, due for a mobile release in 2021.
According to GI.biz, one reason EA decided to stop supporting the franchise is that it’s unlikely to fit into the company’s current racing portfolio.
“Today we announced an update to our racing portfolio internally,” an EA spokesperson told the site. “After evaluating the name of the next Project CARS and its long-term growth potential, we have decided to stop further development and investment in the franchise.
“Decisions like these are tough, but allow us to prioritize areas where we think we have the best chance of creating experiences that fans love.”
“We’re working with all those affected by this decision, where possible, to fit them into appropriate roles across our EA Sports and Racing portfolio, as well as the rest of EA.”
