It’s been eight years since The Sims 4 saw the light of day. Since then there have been 55 expansions for EA’s life simulation. 55! And in the eight years since its release, not a day has gone by that fans haven’t waited for The Sims 5 to be announced.
Now it’s finally official: In a live stream to celebrate the Free2Play transition of The Sims 4 the developers showed the first images from a game that currently still has the working title “Project Rene” and will be the fifth main part of the life simulation series. However, it is not yet official whether the release will actually be called The Sims 5 or whether it will go in a different direction – at least some things will change in terms of content for the life simulation
New Sims part with multiplayer
Much was rumored and hoped in advance, now it is certain: the new Sims part will come with a multiplayer. In the stream, the developers revealed that we will be able to play Project Rene together:
We want to make it easier to collaborate and share. You can decide to play and build alone or with your friends – it’s your choice.
This is of course quite cryptic at first and can mean anything from optional online features in certain modes to a full multiplayer experience. So we remain curious.
First features presented
The developers also showed the first moving images from the new construction mode of Project Rene in the stream. This should offer much more flexibility than in The Sims 4 – by freely adapting patterns, colors and individual parts of furniture, for example. These features are very reminiscent of the great Sims competitor Paralives, who wanted to differentiate themselves by fulfilling these The Sims fan dreams:

The new building mode is said to “offer more flexibility than ever before” and thus also trump The Sims 3, which is known for its countless design possibilities. You can admire the first pictures of the new mode here:
But as you may have noticed, one important thing was missing from the announcement: The Sims itself. Namely, there were no characters or animated live gameplay from Project Rene to be seen. However, there is talk of “evolving the thinking and behavior of the Sims”.
So far, there are mainly a lot of question marks: What will the gameplay look like? What does the new addon concept look like? Will there be a subscription model? We already found some possible answers to these questions in our last podcast:

But it is already clear: The Sims 5 or Project Rene is still there a few years away from a releasebecause the developers spoke in the live stream of “several years of development time” and that they are sharing the new part with the community earlier than any part before.

There was also a hint about the platforms, because it seems that Project Rene will not only be playable on PC and all consoles but also in some form on the smartphone, as shown in a short scene in the stream.
