EA Sports FC 25 adds 13 new heroes to its Ultimate Team roster of niche and classic legends, including Real Madrid hipster favourite Guti, TV star Jamie Carragher, and England’s most capped player of all time, Fara Williams.
Ultimate Team heroes are more accessible options than icons who are known as the true greats of the game, being fan favorites, players who had slightly shorter career peaks, or in some cases, players who have amassed a cult following due to how great they are in the game (we’re looking at you, Ramirez).
There are some interesting additions to the roster this time around, settling several long-standing debates about whether certain players will become icons or emerge as heroes. Some players are also well suited to trying out new player roles in the revamped FC IQ tactical system.
Eden Hazard might be the headline grabber and one of the most likely to become an icon in the modern era – as he has been the best player in the Premier League for many years. But it seems that during his injury (and meme-filled) years at Real Madrid, his value has dropped enough that he should be missed.
Maicon is also an outstanding player who deserves to be remembered. But it is unfortunate that his most recent performance was almost a disastrous performance against Gareth Bale (who will surely soon become an idol himself).
Fara Williams, the most capped player in the soccer powerhouse, also missed out on the Icon card, but at least I now have access to my dream midfielders Marek Hamsik, Tomas Rosicky and Hidetoshi Nakata.
It will also be interesting to see how special goalkeeper cards work in EA Sports FC 25, given its expanded PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ capabilities.
