As is well known, FIFA and publisher EA parted ways after FIFA 23 and Electronic Arts launched its successful football series under the branding EA Sports FC. Nevertheless, the company wants to continue to score points on the licensing front – and an important deal with the English Premier League is now apparently about to be concluded.
As is well known, the FIFA series comes to an end with the current FIFA 23, because the world football association and publisher EA could not agree on a continuation of the long-term cooperation. While FIFA itself wants to be active elsewhere in the video game sector, EA is reorganizing its previous series under the name EA Sports FC, but wants to retain the proven license scope. That’s why you’re working diligently on various fronts to secure appropriate deals for the future – and that now seems to be working in the Premier League as well.
The English league, which is so important and has numerous heavyweights in world football, will reportedly continue to be represented in EA Sports FC with original teams and names. A new deal is supposed to do that, which is now about to be completed.
EA Sports is currently in the process of finalizing a deal with the Premier League that is said to be worth £488m (around $550m). This is now reported by Sky Sports. Accordingly, all 20 Premier League clubs have already received information about the deal. Should this be completed, it should initially last for six years.
The deal with the Premier League wouldn’t be the first of its kind on the road to rebuilding EA’s football video game business. Already in August, EA signed a contract with the Spanish La Liga, which was worth a comparatively low 30 million US dollars. A month earlier, EA also announced the return of Italian giants Juventus, after being temporarily only featured in Konami football matches.
