Fans of sophisticated life simulations have been sitting on The Sims 4 for ten years now, hoping that the series would soon get a worthy successor. For a long time, we assumed that “Project Rene”, which the developers are currently working on, would be this sequel.

In one Investor presentation However, EA now clarifies: Sims 5 does not existAt least not in the way we thought.

The Sims series becomes a universe

Correct, there will be no classic sequel to Sims 4But Project Rene is not dissolved, it is simply something different than we previously assumed. It is more of a Multiplayer offshoot of the seriesfor the a playtest in autumn 2024 is set.

As EA announces, Project Rene will be part of a “Sims universe,” which will continue to include Sims 4 alongside the relaunch of My Sims on the Switch and a new mobile game codenamed “Project Stories.”

Laura Miele, EA’s entertainment chief, describes the plans in the investor presentation as follows:

We will maintain the tremendous engagement and amount of content, […] to make Sims 4 the foundation of our future growth strategy. We will update the product’s core technology and release fun and exciting content in the coming years.

So anyone who wants to play The Sims in the classic way in the future will have to continue to use part 4, which will receive further expansion packs, add-ons and updates in the future.

EA will also be working closely with content creators in the future, with in-game content created by fans officially being offered for purchase in the form of collections starting in November this year. In return, fans will receive early access to future packs, among other things.
