While players are complaining about many aspects of Battlefield 2042, EA obviously has other priorities in mind…including microtransactions.
Will EA and DICE be able to save Battlefield 2042? As we know, the developers don’t plan to release the game any time soon, even though they are already busy with the next opus. While awaiting the arrival of Season 1, players have discovered that a feature no one expected is coming.
Soon microtransactions in Battlefield 2042?
Battlefield 2042 didn’t come out of the inn. Despite the disastrous start and unprecedented desertion, EA and DICE endure to the end. While waiting for the game’s Season 1 to be postponed to this summer, the developers have deployed the Redemption Patch. More than 400 bug fixes and some improvements are on the menu. But nothing that doesn’t allow the game to regain its former glory, even if it manages to collect four times as many players as it did a few weeks ago. Well, at the same time, the bar was low.
If th is big patch is an encouraging first step, it hides sadder news. Digging through the dates of the famous 4.0 update, dataminers discovered that Battlefield 2042 was preparing to welcome microtransactions. It is indeed an in-game shop and necessarily purchases. It would be possible to get cosmetic packs for specialists, weapons, vehicles, as well as XP boosts for real money. Also, 5 in-game currency packs have been unearthed.
Weekly missions and bonuses
To their credit, microtransactions have been a staple of the franchise for a number of years. It’s been a while since fans got used to this and we imagine this won’t make the few diehards go. But that’s clearly not what will keep EA from going under. In addition, the peeled files also mention other elements. For example, there are weekly missions or even bonuses related to the Battlefield 2042 Battle Pass.
Of course, if these dataminers have proven themselves in the past, caution is still required. EA might as well back down, but the chances are very slim. The developers haven’t revealed an exact roadmap for the FPS, we’ll have to wait for an official communication from them.
