It sure sounds like X-Men 97 Season 2 is on the way, but Marvel’s streaming chief was kind enough to remind us how long animation production takes.
X-Men: The Animated Series may have ended nearly 30 years ago, but the success of X-Men ’97 proves that people are clearly hungry for more special takes on the beloved mutant world. Marvel also clearly sees success coming, as a second season was greenlit before the show even aired. However, this being an animated series, many people don’t seem to realize how long it takes for animation to go from script to screen. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Marvel streaming boss Brad Winderbaum gave an update on the progress of X-Men 97 Season 2 so that people can place their expectations on Correct location.

“This is still a stage of animation. Animation takes a long time, as I’m sure you know. There’s a lot about that in Invincible Season 2,” Winderbaum explained, citing a quote from the Prime Video series ’s scene that pokes at some of the light-hearted fun that goes into animation. They just worked so hard to do it, which is the greatest. And it takes a long time. There’s a lag because the studio wants to see how successful the first season is before greenlighting a second. We were lucky enough to get approval before it aired, so there was probably less of a delay. People have to be patient with us. ”
Essentially, it sounds like you’ll have to wait a while for any news on when X-Men 97 Season 2 will air. Animations often take years to develop, much longer than most people think, so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t appear until 2026. Hey, at least there’s Deadpool and Wolverine to look forward to, right?
