After Echo’s finale on Disney Plus, fans are wondering about the future of Maya Lopez and what’s next for star Alaqua Cox. Here are the actress’ thoughts.
Deadline had a chance to sit down with Cox to discuss Echo, its ending, and what might happen next for the character, and here’s a spoiler-packed interview that’s worth checking out if you’ve already seen the five-episode limited series This interview is worth reading. The most interesting parts, however, come from Cox’s hopes for the Mayans and her own future outside of the Marvel realm.

“I hope she doesn’t come back to New York,” she said of Maya’s potential next chapter, wherever and whenever it happens. As Daredevil: Rebirth continues the story of Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin), it’s likely that the character will become a part of future Marvel Cinematic Universe stories in some way. Cox added: “I hope Maya reconnects with her family and gets away from New York and what happened in New York and Kingpin, but we’ll see what happens.”
However, the actress is eager to meet other big-name Marvel characters like the Avengers (whoever they are now), saying: “Honestly, I wouldn’t mind Maya joining the Avengers. I think it would be a great addition to the other superheroes. Heroes Meet would be awesome. I would love it. I think it would be fun. I think it would be great to work with Mark Ruffalo, the Hulk. I love him as an actor and as a person because Mark is a great people defending Aboriginal women.” With two big Avengers movies on the way, it’s very possible many Characters we met in Phases 4 and 5 will appear in the dual finale. So will the street heroes be part of this massive group? This is a completely different discussion.
Thankfully, the conversation also touched on Cox’s work outside of the Marvel Universe. It seems the job offers are indeed coming, but Hollywood may be limiting her with villain roles, with Cox revealing: “Oh my gosh, I keep getting offered all these bad guy roles. Honestly, I want to try something different. I want to Try your hand at a comedy role or a suspense film. I’d love to be able to play a role in a horror film.” It’s not every day we see a deaf-mute Aboriginal amputee on screen, so here’s hoping the actress can star in two Getting back on her feet after a big Marvel series, she’s shown quite impressive range in these two Marvel series.
