With the start of Season 2 of eFootball 2023, Konami is packing tons of national teams into the free-to-play soccer game. Of course without the official license of the real teams.
This weekend, the controversial soccer World Cup in Qatar is about to start. The hosts will kick things off with a game against Ecuador, which kicks off at 17:00 on Sunday. Of course, Konami wants to benefit from the event and has started the second season of the free-to-play kick game eFootball 2023, which has the catchy title “The Football Festival”.

Probably the most important innovation for gamepad kickers is that a whopping 40 new national teams have been added. Due to the lack of licenses, you don’t have to look forward to real player names, but of course that doesn’t prevent you from recreating real games, at least in part. According to Konami, you can go to the field with them in offline mode for a “limited period of time”. The update to version 2.2.0 must be installed for this.
The new event “The International Cup Experience” ensures a real World Cup feeling, where you compete with one of 46 available national teams. The tournament against the AI is divided into group phases, in which you progress in the KO system or just get kicked out. Just like the real thing, just without the blessing of FIFA.
With the “National Team Packs” you can also buy packs of eleven players for currently four countries. France, Argentina, Brazil and Japan are available so far, but Konami promises more packs in the future, also with European teams. eFootbal 2023 runs until December 17th, except for the “International Cup”. Here, too, you take part with a national team, the best teams share a prize pool of one billion eFootball coins.
