Since the official announcement, Elden Ring has been one of the most anticipated games. But when will the new title of the Dark Souls makers from From Software come out? We may really have to prepare for a longer waiting period.
Shortly after the official announcement of Elden Ring, the new title from From Software was largely quiet – and there may be a reason for that. Apparently we have to wait at least another year until the release of the game by the Dark Souls makers.
At least that is what the current annual report of Kadokawa Corp. Near. This is namely the parent company of developer From Software, and they are not necessarily expecting the best numbers in the current financial year.
As is largely the case in the games industry, the fiscal year runs until March 31, 2022 and during this year, for example, a 15 percent decline in sales and a drop in profits of up to 52 percent compared to the previous year are expected. The forecast will certainly also be influenced by the effects of the corona, but the games industry is not necessarily one that has been particularly badly affected by the pandemic. On the contrary: Since many people interested in gaming have spent and continue to spend much more time at home, a number of companies have achieved new record sales.
In short: The rather pessimistic forecast does not necessarily allow conclusions to be drawn that a supposed blockbuster like Elden Ring will be published by the end of the current financial year by March 31, 2022 – because then the numbers are likely to be better.
That would, however, also coincide with a report that earlier in the current one suggested that development work on the game was noticeably affected by the pandemic. Delays in ongoing projects have often occurred independently of the increasing sales figures in the industry in general. According to reports, such consequences did not stop at Elden Ring either.
As long as there is no official announcement of a release date, one can only speculate. The fact that the game has not had a public appearance for so long may speak volumes.
