Eldon Ring The players woke up this morning to a brutal surprise. Developer FromSoftware has released a major new patch for the game — the biggest since its release — bringing a bunch of nerfs and buffs. Unfortunately, as often happens with balance updates, some player-favorite items have been canceled.
Patch 1.03 went live on all platforms this morning; introducing a number of very useful new features, expanding the quests of some NPCs, and fixing a few bugs – especially those involving performance issues when traversing the open world.
While all players are excited that the map now lists the merchants discovered and the locations of the NPCs you encounter, some players lament some of the nerfs hitting their favorite skills and summons. Nothing is more real than tears of imitation.
Tears of imitation is a unique elven-grey conjuration that can be found in one of the many secret areas of the Elden Ring (the Eternal City in Nokron). The purpose of summoning is simple, which is why it is so dangerous. When summoned, Tears mimic the player – their movements, weapon loadouts, armor, and fighting tendencies.
In other words, it’s like the two of you are on the field, which usually means doing almost twice as much damage to the boss. Players quickly realize that you can also change your gear before summoning Mimic Tears, essentially having two different playstyles, fighting bosses. It’s common to have an overpowered weapon equipped before the summon and switch back to the standard loadout after the summon.
On Elden Ring’s large subreddit, the meme has taken off, as more players become aware of the news and post their reactions on one of the most popular threads on the subreddit.
Ajperry1995 wrote: “I’m glad I finished the game 100% before the nerf happened. Mimic Tear saved me a few times.”
“Oops, get some rest, idiot,” exclaimed JackBoxcarBear. “Okay, tighten your jars and get those jars ready, Shield Boy. You’ll be working overtime.”
Sadly for GhostSlayer781, spending those runes and gloves to upgrade Mimic Tears might be a bit of a waste.
“I also legally made that guy a 10+ 💀 I think I can manage to kill the Double Tree Sentinel while I still have him,” they wrote.
As for what is nerf Actually Indeed, Reddit user Eurehetemec did some testing and found that while the Mimic Tear summon still deals some hits, it doesn’t deal any damage like it used to.That said, Eurehetemec believes that summoning is now more aggressive, and may even be more Valid – subject to availability.
Even if you don’t understand the destructive power of Mimic Tears, it’s still an easy summoner to recommend because of its versatility. In our boss tactics against Morgott, Rykard, Maliketh, and others, we always recommend summoning Soul Ash to help you. Tears of Imitation is simply too good to ignore.
Before they nerf the rest of your tactics/summons/spells/weapons, it’s best to read our other recommendations in our popular Elden Ring guide. We’re glad they left the poor old noble wizard.
