Publisher Bandai Namco and developer FromSoftware and Eldon Ring to date. Only in March we heard that the game had sold 12 million units, and now – according to Bandai Namco’s most recent earnings call – we learned that the game has sold over 13.4 million units.
The latest IP from well-known developers has been sold on PC, Xbox and PlayStation platforms. The hardcore open-world action RPG only launched on February 25, so seeing it claim nearly 14 million sales has made it one of the best-selling games in FromSoft and Bandai Namco history. It’s worth noting that we’re now a month and a half away from that number – so it’s probably already significantly higher.
According to the last official count, even Dark Souls 3 only sold 10 million copies. Can Elden Ring sustain the momentum and pass the 20 million sales mark by the end of the year? It seems likely at this point, especially if there’s an Elden Ring DLC in development (as evidenced by the inaccessible arena and other hints in the game).
Given that Elden Ring debuted as the best-selling game of February 2022 (and 2022 YTD more broadly), it wouldn’t be surprising to see the game still sell well as we approach the quieter parts of the year .
All of this momentum is driving Bandai Namco to consider more Elden Ring projects — and it sounds like they’re more than just games. The publisher said in March that it wanted to expand Elden Ring as an IP and make more titles based on it, “hoping to expand beyond gaming.”
Bandai Namco President and CEO Yasuo Miyagawa said: “We will continue to work hard to expand the brand beyond the game itself and into everyone’s daily life.” I don’t know about you, but it sounds a little bit to me sinister.
Regardless, Elden Ring’s journey has only just begun. If you want to keep yourself alive as FromSoft goes further down this violent, deadly path, you may want to use our Elden Ring guide as a resource. Because it does sound like we all have some surviving things to do.
