Eldon Ring The speedruns are getting faster and faster, and the latest world record manages to keep the time under 13 minutes.
If you haven’t followed Elden Ring Any% Unrestricted speedruns, it’s time to start. The current world record comes from Distortion2 at 12 minutes and 13 seconds. Just two weeks ago, the speedrunner’s time was just over 22 minutes, which means Distortion2 shaved a full 10 minutes off in a very short amount of time. Running is also a pretty crazy watch because it involves a technique called zipper failure.
The zip glitch is a weird glitch, it’s not clear why it happens, but basically it works like this: it’s a perfect frame glitch, if you move in a precise way while blocking, the idle animation just will be broken, allowing you to move across the map. If you watch the run, you may notice that the character falls from a height but takes no fall damage, probably because the game thinks the model is not moving up. This allows runners to move quickly around the map, skipping most of the race.
In fact, there is currently only one mandatory battle, a late game boss fight, although theories are brewing on how to skip it. The zipper is also used to make the final boss spawn below the world map, which means it dies, so if you’re looking for a run that involves high-level boss battles, this is not the one.
Because glitches are a frame-perfect trick, the metronome sound is also used to help w ith timing, although it’s used less often because it’s been found to be less effective. Although it was fun at least for a while. There are still noticeable improvements in some places, but they may come as the trick is refined.
