The first trailer for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC was released yesterday (February 21), and unsurprisingly, it sent some FromSoft fans into crazy theories, which have already resulted in some interesting ideas, some of them related to curtains.

In case you missed it, we now know that The Shadow of the Tree will be released on June 21, 2024, which gives people a few months to prepare themselves for the trailer’s long list of strange and undoubtedly very hard-hitting Boss missions to show off. It also leaves plenty of time for people to try and figure out where we are story-wise, a process that has already begun.

Of course, one of the people who quickly started digging in and coming up with ideas was YouTuber Sekiro Dubi, who you might be familiar with if you’re interested in Elden Ring clips. Along with ER YouTuber Ziostorm and others, they participated in a large brainstorming session on Twitter to try to reveal potential connections between the DLC’s story and the main game’s story.

There are already many A little chat about Mesmer – The boss with the snake in the trailer is thought to be possibly “another of Marika’s demigod children,” which could make them some sort of siblings to Malenia and Miquela. Related to this idea is, This is the butterfly theorywhich is based on actual butterflies that you can find in the base game and use as crafting materials.

People had previously used it to hint at a possible connection between Malenia, Miquela, and Melina, but now they’re suggesting that Mesmer is likely what the Smoldering Butterfly represents, rather than the latter.

That said, my favorite part of the theory is even more than Mysterious conversations surrounding the souls in the base game, is about curtains. Yes.

To be fair, they weren’t just old curtains, but curtains found in Queen Malika’s bedroom. “I think the curtains here suggest some kind of boundary between Marika’s resting place, and the bedroom curtains that pass through her unconscious into the land of shadows,” Sekiro Dubi suggested in a tweet about them. “Yingshi. Trina/Miquela is the master of dreams after all.”

So this could make Shadowlands some kind of dream realm or pocket dimension related to its central characters. “Malika was impaled. [by] Mesmer. She was in pain, but Miquela made her sleep to avoid the pain.Malika fell asleep, and in her sleep she dreamed of shadows coming [sic]hence those curtains,” the YouTuber added a separate post.

So, yes, maybe some curtains are the key to understanding Shadow of Erdtree. Or maybe they’re not. We’ll just have to wait until it’s released or someone discovers some groundbreaking connection to find out.

Oh, and we also found out yesterday that Hayao Miyazaki has heard all your cries for a Bloodborne remake or remake, although there’s no big update on an actual release just yet.
