If you thought the experience of fighting Elden Ring’s bosses wasn’t harrowing enough, a new mod gives them a horror-style makeover, ensuring they only move when you’re not looking at them.
Yes, you’ve had nightmares about Malenia, now you can have some new ones that involve her being extremely cold and then suddenly unleashing a deadly waterfowl dance as soon as your back is turned. The modder you have to thank/blame is Dasaav, who you may be familiar with as their previous project made it possible to play Elden Ring from a first-person perspective.

Their latest creation, “Sinister Statue,” revolves around an equally game-changing concept. Every enemy in The Lands Between—from regular foes to bosses and even wild animals—is transformed into an immobile statue, but when you take your eyes off them, they begin to attack or Act like a normal person.
“Enemies within your field of vision will not move,” the modder explains. “Entering combat or being spotted by an enemy will cause your character to start blinking periodically. You can hold down the interact key (the one that brings up the item bag) to temporarily stop the blinking, or release it early to advance the blinking and reset the timer.”
So yeah, think of the infamous Weeping Angels from Doctor Who, I’m reliably told that they were scary in the first few outings, but when one of them was the Statue of Liberty, they became laughing stock.
You can get a closer look at what you’ll encounter in the mod with the handy showcase video below, which really gives you an idea of just how much things flow when you’re completely safe and open your eyes for a minute Fun to watch as the famous “You’re Dead” splash follows.
For now, Dasav says their creation “should work with most other works” [Elden Ring] mods”, including Kirnifr’s “Elden Ring Ring Reforged” and Thefifthmatt’s Randomizer, among others. Currently, multiplayer mods are the main exception to this rule, but the modders say that “if there’s enough interest,” they LukeYui’s “seamless cooperation” will be considered for integration into it.
