Founded by Frederik Schreiber, the studio changed its name to Slipgate Studios in 2017, but changed its name to Slipgate Ironworks in 2019 to avoid confusion with the Las Vegas-based company. The name of a former company led by John Romero, one of the original co-founders of id Software.
