With Enshrouded, Keen Games delivered one of the big early access hits of this year in January 2024. The user numbers on the opening weekend put many AAA productions in competition, but things are currently looking really sad on the servers. The reason for this could be, among other things, a missing building.
To put the numbers into more concrete terms: On the opening weekend, the survival title Enshrouded got off to an incredible start with 160,000 simultaneously active players. Of course, numbers like this don’t stay the same forever, but in this case the decline is very severe.

In the last 24 hours, at peak times, there were just over 8,000 users on the servers at the same time. So over 95 percent of those who played were lost, even though the reviews on Steam are still very positive. So what’s the big deal?
On the one hand, problems in multiplayer are cited as a reason for criticism. Connections keep breaking down or friends simply can’t join. But the gaming world also repeatedly becomes the subject of complaints. According to many fans, this is currently simply too empty.
The developers from Frankfurt studio Keen Games praised improvements in their last blog posts. They are working on the issues and want to provide fans with fresh content as soon as possible. In February 2024, an Easter egg was removed from the game, which is mentioned surprisingly often in the course of criticism.
What is meant is the “Dragon’s Lair”, which looks amazingly similar to a real building. If you follow the YouTube drama, then you probably realize that it was modeled after the former home of Rainer “Drachenlord” Winkler. According to Keen Games, this ended up in Enshrouded by accident, and the studio itself didn’t know how that could happen. We’ll just leave this strange statement alone for now.
