The Sony group and the company that owns LEGO take a stake in Epic Games’ capital. The company behind Fortnite has spoken about this new fundraiser.
Epic Games’ bride has never looked so beautiful and continues to be wooed everywhere. In particular from Sony, who, alongside Kirkbi (LEGO), are increasing their stake in the company. A common goal: to bite into the Metaverse cake.
Epic Games: for a few billion more
It is through a communicates qu’Epic Games announces it has raised a whopping $2 billion from Sony and Kirkbi, the Danish company that owns the LEGO Group. The two companies have each invested a billion “to speed up the building of the metaverse”. Yes, it will not appeal to everyone.
As we reinvent the future of entertainment and gaming, we need partners who share our vision. We found that out in our collaboration with Sony and KIRKBY. This investment will accelerate our work to build the metaverse and create spaces where players can have fun with their friends, brands can have creative and immersive experiences, and where developers can build and thrive communities.
says Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic Games.
Kenichiro Yoshida, PDG de Sony Group Corporation, an expliqué:
As a creative entertainment company, we’re excited to invest in Epic to deepen our relationship in the Metaverse industry, an area where developers and users share their time. We also believe that Epic’s expertise, including through its powerful game engine, combined with Sony’s technologies, will accelerate our various efforts such as the development of new digital experiences for sports fans and our virtual production.
Fortnite’s company is now valued at $31.5 billion.
Two heavyweights as investors
Twice Sony meddled in the capital of Epic Games for a total of $450 million. And for LEGO, the stakes are just as important. The injected money is actually used to form a metaverse for children. A safe place where they can express their creativity. If this project manages to assimilate the aura of bricks, it will be the jackpot for the Danish company (and Epic Games).
In addition to the Metaverse, Epic also has the support of renowned studios for its Unreal Engine 5.
