Since the official launch, the Epic Games Store has been preparing to compete with top dog Steam more and more. New social features should also help in this in the future.
Epic Games has announced the integration of a number of new social features in its in-house store for PC games. The aim is to continue to catch up with the PC-Primus Steam and to further promote interaction and playing among friends. This includes improving existing functions such as wishlists, adding achievements and redesigning the friends window.
First and foremost, a new group system will be introduced in the Epic Games Launcher, through which you can meet in the future and communicate via voice chat, text chat and more. You can join or leave a group at any time, with all team members sharing control.
This new system is to be integrated soon and will then offer an “active group window”. This is a separate window for the group in which you are currently active. In addition to the communication options, you can also use this to share your latest highlights with friends or start a match with just a few friends from the group. Such a group is retained even after the start of a game; In a simplified view you can show and hide the respective status.
In addition to the group system, the friends window is to be redesigned to improve functionality. There will be player cards with additional options for managing friendship, improved friend search, minimized views, and more. “Please do not disturb” is also being introduced; on the other hand, the so far rarely used “whisper” is mothballed.
