If you weren’t able to pick up the last few free games on the Epic Store, chances are pretty good this week that you’ll enjoy at least one of the three titles. If you’re more of a fan of futuristic scenarios, you should definitely check out Prey. Because the sheer variety of mechanics was also able to convince us:
Prey
In the test we had to play around the corner
If you’re more into the past, Jotun might be for you. The hand-drawn Viking adventure not only looks damn beautiful, but can also tie you to the screen for a long time with tough boss fights.
And if you’re more of a fan of futuristic racetracks, Redout’s Enhanced Edition might be for you. But be careful: Not for people with slow reflexes!

- What’s in it? You get the full versions of all three games, plus Jotun’s Valhalla Edition, which features a new challenge mode.

This is what awaits you in Prey
In the sci-fi shooter you wake up alone on a space station in 2023. You soon learn that you are one of the key subjects in an experiment that will change humanity forever. But surprise: Of course, not everything goes according to plan and you have to defend yourself against aliens that have meanwhile gotten their hands on the space station.
If you’re less interested in the story and more interested in the tools you can use to take down the enemies, this trailer gives you a taste of the full arsenal:

This trailer shows you cool high-tech gadgets that you can use against the aliens
There are also tons of secrets hidden on the Talos 1 space station that need to be solved and bring the story even closer to you. Unfortunately, the aliens who are now living there do not make light of this project, which is why you have to assert yourself against them by all means.
and by any means
is program here. Because Prey is no ordinary shooter, but rather relies on creativity and different approaches. In addition to classics such as pistols, laser guns and shotguns, there are also a whole lot of unusual types of defense, such as the Gloo-Gun
. This lets you shoot a kind of gel that you can use not only to repair lines, but also to slow down opponents.
In addition to this exotic, there are also implants, electricity, fire attacks and much more. In order to be able to use all these possibilities, it is worth turning over every stone and crafting diligently.
As you can see, the developers really come up trumps when it comes to the arsenal of weapons, which is why Elena even dedicated a whole column to the guns:

This is how Jotun plays
Admittedly, fans of extravagant stories might not be quite as happy with Jotun’s story. The Viking adventure tells the experiences rather shallowly and only feeds you with a few scraps of action from time to time.
As a Viking warrior, Thora, you died an inglorious death, which is why you have to fight back your honor and prove it to the gods by passing various tests so that you can finally enter Valhalla.

The trailer not only shows you the beautiful art style, but also the crisp boss fights
Playfully you have to fight against nature and not against opponents in the many different levels. It is not made easy for you to explore the different areas. In the end, however, there is always a boss fight waiting for you, which will demand a lot from you.
However, the bosses are designed fairly and will surprise you a few times with their behavior that you cannot easily predict. In addition, the Valhalla Edition offers a brand new mode that once again significantly increases the challenge against the bosses. So if you are looking for a real challenge, you are well served with this complete package.
If you want to read in full detail why Jotun is a real insider tip, you should read our test as soon as possible:

This is how Redout plays
Do you like to squeeze the tube? What quickly leads to a ticket in reality, nobody cares in the world of Redout. Here you sit in extremely fast futuristic racing cars and roar at breathtaking speed over varied racetracks on different planets.
The driving physics is the special highlight of the game. Because the developers claim to have placed value on physical laws. If you do your laps on Mars, your car should behave differently than on Earth or other celestial bodies.

Who are the free games suitable for?
Prey: Every shooter fan should take a look and grab the free game right now. The developers have made every effort not to throw the next best clone onto the market, but to ensure a high degree of variety.
Jotun: Indie adventure fans will love Jotun. The beautiful areas are a real feast for the eyes and stand out from the crowd. However, the boss fights loosen up the gameplay and provide enough excitement at the right moments.
Redout: If you don’t have a problem with the fact that Redout attaches great importance to physical correctness when it comes to driving, you could discover an entertaining racer for yourself here, which, above all, with its effective presentation, puts you in a good mood.
