Rumors of a PC release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake have been around for a long time. Notes can be found in trailers that state, for example, PS5 time exclusivity until the end of 2021. Now a data discovery in the Epic Store is causing new speculation that FF7 Remake could appear for the PC from the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.
A user of the forum ResetEra discovered the new clues first. The standard directory “(User) / My Games / Final Fantasy 7 Remake” can be found in the data. A save file called “ff7remakedevice.sav” was also found. These are indications that the Epic Store could prepare a distribution of the game.
Why is a PC release likely?
On June 10th, Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade was released on PS5. The trailer for the extended version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake states that the new edition will be available “on PS5 at least six months before any o ther format”. That opens the window for a release away from the PlayStation microcosm from December 10, 2021 or later.
That fits perfectly with the new findings: The latest epic leak seems to make this possibility even more likely. But keep your horses in check: Officially there are still no statements from Square Enix or Sony about a PC release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
However, Sony recently broke the previously stringent release policy in favor of the PC. In the meantime, successful titles that were previously exclusive to PS such as Horizon: Zero Dawn, Death Stranding or Days Gone are also being released for the computer. Further PC releases are as good as certain in the future.
A notice in a trailer previously caused a sensation when it became clear that the gameplay of Final Fantasy 7 Remake was explicitly shown on a PC. Unfortunately, until an official announcement is made, PC gamers are still sitting on hot coals.
