in one Blogpost The developers of SCS Software announce their decision to stop the release of Heart of Russia. On February 24, 2022 – the day the war began – the expansion was only a few weeks away from completion. The news of the invasion of Russia came as a shock to developers.
In response to the news, SCS Software then released a Ukraine skin pack, the proceeds of which were donated to humanitarian aid in Ukraine. According to the developers, the pack sold a total of 85,000 copies. Incidentally, SCS Software is not the only one with such a campaign. In the last few months, the developers have also thought about how to deal with the almost finished Russia DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Now they have come to a conclusion:
When developing our players, we try to remain as non-political as possible in order to protect our players from everyday controversies around the world. We like the idea that our shared passion for a simulation connects people and makes it possible to visit a neighboring country peacefully. […] But since our DLC Heart of Russia directly affects Russia, and because so many people are suffering, we decided not to release the DLC so that no one would perceive it as supporting or even tolerating the attack.
However, it is still possible that the DLC will be released at a later date. When the war is over, and in Ukraine the time of the reconstruction and healing
come, then they will try to give Heart of Russia a role in this healing process.
