Gaming News Even if no one understood the ending of this video game, 11 years later it remains an ultra-cult title
Although it was released more than eleven years ago, internet users have rediscovered this cult title from the 2010s. However, a decade later, there is no sequel and its future appears to be split in two directions.
When the first Bioshock was released in 2007, the title from Irrational Games and 2K Games was the subject of a minor bombshell. With the atmosphere of the underwater city of Rapture, the powers at the player’s disposal and its “light immersive sim” approach, the latter has managed to win the hearts of the public and critics. While the second work remained unnoticed due to its close proximity to the original game, the third further increased the popularity of the franchise.
This title, It’s Bioshock Infinite, released in 2013, and while everyone is sold, critics and gamers alike, it’s clear that the game has been somewhat forgotten a decade later and does not appear as a reference like other titles of its time. To right this injustice, players shared their experiences on Reddit to pay tribute to one of the most memorable games of the 2010s.
One of the cult games of the 2010s
On the video game subreddit r/Gaming, user cyborgcolossus posted a screenshot of Bioshock Infinite to show that the title is still just as beautiful eleven years later. It must be said that the teams at Irrational Games focused more than on the graphics, but above all on the very special artistic direction. With its aesthetic of the American dream of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the 2K Games title benefits from a unique visual atmosphere that never ages.
Beyond his portrayal, Obviously, Infinite has left its mark on so many people through its story, especially thanks to the character Elizabeth, who accompanies us through the adventure. But hey, you have to acknowledge that the confusing side of the scenario, which was nevertheless widely praised at the time, is more open to criticism here, especially because of certain twists that make little sense. Today we have reason to be more critical, but in 2013 Everyone was convinced by this story between time travel and dimensions that are no longer so normal these days. Ultimately, we could have seen Bioshock Infinite win the GOTY title in 2013… if that wasn’t the year The Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto V were released.
What future does Bioshock have?
While it was still a promising saga, it’s surprising that Bioshock hasn’t had any claim to more games in the last decade. Recently, 2K’s X account (formerly Twitter) seemed to indicate that development of a Bioshock 4 was indeed in the pipelinebut nothing official has been announced yet.
What we know, on the other hand, is this Ken Levine, the “father” of the franchise, left Irrational Games and 2K to form his own studio, Ghost Story Games, and develop a title called Judas. And given the first trailers, it’s clear that this is a kind of Bioshock, albeit in space. The latter appears to be much closer to release than Bioshock 4, as Judas should be released no later than March 2025.
