elder ring It was clearly a huge success, but director and Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki didn’t know why.
It’s hard to say what Elden Ring has been anything but a huge success.Whether it’s 16.6 million copies sold worldwide or critical acclaim, it’s good news for developers from software. But what’s the reasoning behind the game’s achievements? According to Miyazaki himself, he “doesn’t know wh at the reason is”.
Earlier this week, Elden Ring took home the grand prize at the Japan PlayStation Partner Awards 2022 in Tokyo, which honors the two highest-selling games developed in Asia, with Genshin Impact being another winner. After the event, Miyazaki participated in an interview where he was asked what made the game such a success (thanks IGN).
“Honestly, I haven’t analyzed much yet,” Miyazaki replied. “It’s true that sales are higher than our previous games, but I don’t know why. So even if I wanted to repeat that success, I couldn’t.” The game’s producer noted that he plans to continue “with the same way” to make games without being distracted by the success of Elden Ring.
“I try not to think about it too much because I think it’s a bad idea to analyze it deeply and consciously try to replicate it in another game.”
Unsurprisingly, Elden Ring took home Game of the Year at this year’s Game Awards along with a slew of other nominations, so we’ll just have to wait a few days to see if the game continues to be a success (important disclosure: the nominees consisted of over 100 Selected by a global jury of media publications and influential outlets – including our iGamesNews).
